Patrons rave about the atmosphere. The welcoming staff and friendly locals create a vibrant social environment that's hard to beat. The extensive beer selection is a highlight for many, with options ranging from classic ales to trendy craft beers. The food is another draw, especially the famed Pieminster pies and hearty pub grub that satisfy hunger after a day of exploring the canal. The beer garden provides a serene backdrop for a meal or drink during warmer months, making it ideal for family outings or casual hangouts. Engaging events like live music and quiz nights are crowd favorites, fostering a lively community spirit.

Most Disliked

While the Cheshire Cheese boasts many strengths, timing can affect the experience. The pub tends to be crowded during peak hours, especially Thursday evenings, which can lead to longer wait times. Some patrons wish for a broader selection of dishes, noting that while the pub grub is hearty, including more unique or modern offerings could enhance their dining experience. Additionally, a few visitors have mentioned that the noise level during busy nights can be quite high, which may not suit everyone's vibe. Despite these minor setbacks, the friendly atmosphere often outweighs any inconveniences.

Very good pub in a good location close to the canal. Food is typical pub grub food, the pieminster pies are fabulous and well worth the price. Nice well kept pint of San Miguel at a decent price. Landlord and landlady very friendly and happy to chat to customers. I've called in a few times and I will be back in the near future. A proper pub with a good mix of locals, boaters and walkers. Very good vibes.

Didn’t have food, but the beer garden was lovely and relaxing. They have bands on and quiz nights, we’ll definitely be going back.

Great, traditional English Pub with quite a nice pint, served by friendly staff & an ever-smiling Landlady. Highly recommended. Very handy for Wheelock Wharf moorings and dog friendly.

A Spectacular Pub, close to the Canal, with a lovely outside seating area, kids play area, and a covered seating area. The Food served at the Cheshire Cheese Pub, is what can be described as "Proper Pub Grub" excellent pies, chips 'n gravy. Superb Ales, and really pleasant staff, to match the friendly locals. All in All, Faultless. No wonder the folks of the Canal make a beeline to Wheelock. Good pubs like this one are getting few and far between. Keep up the Good Work, Cheshire Cheese, and Thank You 👍

Came across the Cheshire Cheese by accident. We had a group of 6 and a dog. Places near did not allow dogs inside. Cheshire Cheese had it all for dogs, bowls of water, doggie meals and snacks. They had a good choice of food with a great variety of pies at a reasonable price. We had a good meal of and would go back again.

Cheshire Cheese rebranded as a Hickory Smokehouse in November '18. We went for my other Half's birthday with friends and it was a great night. Brilliant decor, great music and friendly staff. All very authentic. DELICIOUS FOOD, amazing night and can't wait to go.
